President Thabo Mbeki has sent the following message to President KR Narayanan of India on the train tragedy in that country.

Dear Mr President

On behalf of myself and the Government and people of South Africa, I would like to extend my deepest sympathy and condolences to the Government and people of India, and particularly to the families who suffered personal losses during the recent railway tragedy.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of India during this tragic period.
