This year August 9th marks the 43rd anniversary of the march by 20 000 South African women on Union Buildings demanding an end to the pass laws. Events and activities to mark Women's Day have been planned during the month of August. The Commission on Gender Equality together with partners in government and civil society are co-ordinating an information awareness campaign around Women's Month.

The Commission on Gender Equality invites you to a press conference to launch this year's "Women's Month" programme with the theme: "Women Unite: Break the Silence"

NEWS INSERT WITH CALENDAR OF EVENTS

The Commission on Gender Equality (CGE) is producing a news insert with an extensive calendar of events and activities planned for Women's Month. The insert will be released in daily newspapers throughout the country on Monday the 2nd of August.

DAILY BULLETIN

As a service to media producers and journalists the CGE will release a daily bulletin of events and activities in the run up to Women's Day starting on August 2nd. The bulletin will also provide contacts for women speakers on a wide spectrum of issues and will explore key challenges for women in the struggle for gender equality.

INTERVIEWS

Commission on Gender Equality Commissioners and Staff are available to be interviewed on a wide range of gender related topics. These include customary law, violence against women, men and gender equality, virginity testing, women and poverty, women and politics, women and empowerment, women and the elections, women and the law, gender and media etc.
