Issued by: Ministry for The Public Service and Administration
The COSATU Public Service Unions: NEHAWU, SADTU and POPCRU have submitted a notice to Government, declaring a day's demonstration planned for Friday 23 July 1999.
As government, we want to reaffirm our decision to stick to the principle of "no work no pay", for employees who will participate in the demonstration. This demonstration is regarded as unprotected for members of unions who did not serve a formal notice. If such employees absent themselves from work, they can face disciplinary actions. All departments and provinces have been instructed to keep a strict record of employees who will be absent from work on the day of protest.
With the co-operation shown by the Unions, we are still confident that a solution to the wage dispute is within reach.
