HONG KONG DELEGATION TO VISIT SA

On 25 July 1999, South Africa will for the first time receive a high profile business delegation from Hong Kong. This delegation will be led by Sir Donald Tsang - the Financial Secretary and the Deputy Director of Trade Development Council, Mrs Anna Lai. They will be accompanied by twelve senior business executives.

The mission is aimed at establishing trade and investment in SA. The following are the targeted sectors: Electrical equipemtn and appliances, Toy and watch manufacturing, Jewellery and imitation jewellery manufacturing, Clothing and textiles (medium to high value), Infrastrcture and property development (ports, hotels, housing and industrial parks), stainless steel and holloware and service industry (banking and trade related services).

The delegation is scheduled to meet with President Thabo Mbeki, Minister of Trade and Industry Alec Erwin, Minister of finance Trevor Manuel, business leaders, bankers and financiers. There will also be a major business conference organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.

The delegation which was invited by the South African Government will leave for Hong Kong on 4 August 1999.
