Today's signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between National Government, the South African Local Government Association (SALGA), state owned enterprises and the private sector associations aimed at ensuring Y2K compliance amongst local authorities is another milestone in the unfolding partnership between government and the private sector.
This milestone adds to the national momentum and indeed global efforts to ensure that the Y2K problem does not hamper the smooth delivery of government services.
This agreement is particularly significant in that it reflects the unity of purpose and seriousness with which the parties to the agreement have tackled the problem of ensuring that there is no disruption to the economy of the country or the lives of our citizens.
The Office of the Deputy President wishes extend its complete support for the agreement reached and expresses its hope that the agreement will be emulated by all sectors of our society.
