The leader of the right wing AWB Eugene Terreblanche and Johannes "Piet Skiet" Rudolph are applying for amnesty for various acts of public violence committed on August 9, 1991 in Ventersdorp on Monday next week.
It was announced that the former state president F.W. De Klerk was going to address a meeting in Ventersdorp. Members of the AWB mounted a march to the meeting and as they tried to get to police roadblock, Rudolph was arrested.
In the ensuing fracas the lights of the town were switched off and this resulted in a chain of accidents. Both applicants were fined for public violence.
Terreblanche is also seeking amnesty for two other incidents, the tarring and feathering of Prof. Van Jaarsveld in March 1997 at the University of South Africa in Pretoria. He was also charged for possession of illegal weapons and ammunition in Venterdorp in 1982 in Ventersdorp.
Also applying for amnesty in the same hearing is Nkulyleko Dlova an APLA cadre, who with his comrades were involved in a shootout with members of counter insurgency unit between Litchtenburg and Rooigrond.
The hearing will be held at the Klerksdorp Rhema Educational Centre, Klerksdorp.
