Members of the Inter Ministerial Security Committee (IMSC) travelled to Bisho and East London today for discussions to secure the forthcoming national elections. Members of the delegation were the Minister and Deputy Minister of Defence; the Minister and Deputy Minister of Safety and Security, and the Deputy Minister for Intelligence Service.
The delegation met with the Premier and most of the MEC's of the MEC's of the Eastern Cape at Bisho, and thereafter at the East London headquarters of the Rev Bongani Finca, the provincial electoral officer of the Eastern Cape.
Productive discussions were held and areas of concern were noted. All concerned expressed confidence with the security preparations that are in place and those being organised.
During the course of next week, the IMSC will be visiting all other provinces that have not yet been visited. A visit was already undertaken to the Western Cape earlier this week.
In conclusion, a proposed visit to the province of KwaZulu-Natal was postponed to a later date owing to time constraints.
