The Chief Executive Officer of the IEC and the Commissioner for SARS met this morning to discuss issues relating to the tax status of the IEC. The two organisations agreed that areas of uncertainty would be mutually addressed.
The Commissioner for SARS confirmed that the funds in the banking accounts of the IEC are not subject to any attachment order. The IEC is therefore fully entitled to utilise its funds to fulfill its constitutional mandate to ensure free and fair elections.
