Issued by: Office of the Deputy President
The office of Deputy President Thabo Mbeki has noted with great concern a report in The Sunday Independent suggesting an underhand involvement of the deputy president in the decision of Mr Cyril Ramaphosa to quit his position as deputy chairman of NAIL.
The Deputy President has no personal or financial interest in the affairs of any private company, including NAIL, to determine the future of its directors - nor does the Deputy President has any interest in the personal fortunes of Mr Cyril Ramaphosa.
It is our view that the article contains outrageous lies. It is unfortunate that writer has to scrape the bottom to find reasons with which to slight the integrity of the Deputy President.
The decision by Mr Ramaphosa to quit his post is an internal matter between Nail directors and Mr Ramaphosa and they have nothing to do with the Deputy President.
