STATEMENT ON CITY PRESS ALLEGATIONS REGARDING TRANSNET MD SAKI MACOZOMA
The Office of Deputy President Thabo Mbeki read with alarm and concern the suggestion contained in City Press edition of 26 October that the Deputy President has instituted a commission of inquiry to investigate allegations of impropriety against Transnet MD Saki Macozoma.
Nothing is further from the truth! The Deputy President has not instituted any such commission of inquiry against Macozoma as alleged by the City Press.
It is unfortunate that City Press had proceeded to print this falsehood without verifying the fact with the Office of the Deputy President. In this context, it is our considered view that had City Press approached the office of the Deputy President for comment on this matter, this factual inaccuracy could have been avoided.
