SISULU ON AN OFFICIAL VISIT TO MEXICO

The Honourable Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Ms L N Sisulu, MP depart today, Thursday 15 October 1998 on an official visit to Mexico, and will return on 23 October 1998.

The purpose of the visit is to study the electoral system in Mexico, and examine ways in which it can enhance democracy in South Africa. The visit is also a means to strengthen relations between South Africa and Mexico and to provide for continued co-operation between the two countries.

During this visit Ms Sisulu will visit the Federal Electoral Institute. She will meet the President of the Federal Electoral Institute's General Council; the President of the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judicial Power, the Secretary of the Interior Ministry, and the Deputy Secretary for the United Nations-Africa and Middle East. Ms Sisulu will also address a conference at the Colegio de Mexico on "The Transition Process in South Africa," and she will give a press interview.
