FURTHER AGREEMENT REACHED BY PARTIES IN LESOTHO

Recognising that the parties reached agreement on 2 October 1998;

And further recognising the SADC proposal on ways and means of carrying the agreement forward;

The Parties hereby agree further as follows:

1. A structure will be put in place to facilitate the preparations for and holding of elections in Lesotho, as agreed to on 2nd October 1998, in conjunction with the Legislative and Executive Structures in Lesotho.

2. This structure will also seek to create and promote conditions conducive to the holding of free and fair elections as set out above.

3. The Parties agree to continue discussions on the responsibilities of such a structure. To this end, the parties agree to establish technical teams which will examine all proposals and report back.

4. Timetable for implementation of the agreement.

5. The government undertakes to facilitate the implementation of agreements in pursuance of the above.

Thus signed and agreed to on this 14th day of October 1998 at the United Nations House, Maseru, Lesotho.
