Pretoria - Mr Mtholephi Mtimkhulu has been appointed as campaign manager of government AIDS action plan with effect from 01 October 1998. Mr Mtimkhulu hods a teachers qualification from Eshowe College of Education and a Bachelor of Administration degree from the University of Zululand.
One of his major function will be to drive the implementation of the Government AIDS Action Plan which is headed by Deputy President, Mr Thabo Mbeki. This implementation involves mobilisation and motivation of all sectors of society to establish HIV/AIDS programmes. This will conceptualise sector-specific responses to HIV/AIDS, intra and inter-sectoral coordination, liaison with local, national and international leadership. This also includes mobilisation of financial and human resources.
Before joining the Department he was the Radio News Editor at SABC. He has been greatly involved in community projects like Friends of the Deaf Association, member of the Board of Trustees of Siyathuthuka Disabled Peoples Association. he has also been involved in the negotiations to address the violence in KwaZulu-Natal.
Mr Mthimkhulu is the founder member of the South African National Editors Forum (SANEF) and co-founder of the Media Workers Association of South Africa (MWASA) in SABC's Natal region.
