7 October 1998
Deputy President Thabo Mbeki will read a Declaration on behalf of President Nelson Mandela at the launch of the Partnership Against Aids at noon on October 9 1998. This change is due to the fact that the president will not be performing any official duties until October 12 1998.
All other arrangements for the launch are on track. Many businesses, government departments and organisations are putting the final touches to their plans to Invest 10 Minutes for the Life of the Nation on October 9 by gathering to watch television or listen to the radio. The launch will be covered live on SABC 1, 2 and 3 - as well as on SABC radio stations nationwide. Key sectors of society will make a public pledge to the nation about their practical commitment to fighting the Aids epidemic.
