On Friday, 9 October 1998, at 12pm, South Africa will come to a standstill for 10 minutes. In this time, President Nelson Mandela will address the nation on the issue of AIDS.
The 10 minute Declaration will be televised as well as broadcast live by radio.
The aim of this 10 minute stoppage is to create a sense of national urgency and understanding about the HIV/AIDS crisis - with an appeal to the South African population from the highest authority (the President).
The venue of the broadcast is Ethembeni Children's Home, 63 Sherwell Road, Doorfontein, Johannesburg.
