The Inter-Ministerial Committee on Aids met in Pretoria yesterday and has issued a call to all those who attended Deputy President Thabo Mbeki's September 11 Briefing on Aids to double their efforts to ensure that all South Africans maximise their commitment to fight this deadly disease.
Intensive preparations are underway for President Nelson Mandela's Address to the Nation on October 9 at 12 noon. On that day, for 10 minutes, all South Africans are called upon to stop whatever they may be doing, switch on a radio or television set, and listen. Organisations are also called upon to find creative ways of mobilising their members/staff to, on that day, rededicate themselves to fight against the spread of Aids wherever possible.
In order to consolidate the Partnership Against Aids, representatives of business, labour, youth, women, non-governmental and community-based organisations, the religious, sports and entertainment sectors will gather together in sectorial briefings later this week to identify practical commitments they could make to fight against Aids.
Invest 10 minutes for the life of the nation on October 9!
