The Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Dr Pallo Jordan, reacted to the Cape Town bomb blast last night denouncing it as a senseless act of terrorism that also inflicted untold damage on South Africa's economy and its people.
"This is act of terrorism, seen within the global context, hurts our country's tourism industry. Tourism has the potential to be a leading sector of our economy, actively contributing to generating foreign revenue, job creation and the upliftment of the poorest sector of our communities.
"Those responsible for this blast clearly acted to harm our country and its people," Dr Jordan said.
The Minister appealed to all South Africans, irrespective of religious persuasion, to condemn in the strongest terms those who have committed this atrocity. The Ministry will be consulting with the Tourism Safety Task Group to address the issue of safety in our Tourism attractions with a view to thwarting any further acts of terrorism.
