INSTITUTION OF A SMALL CLAIMS COURT FOR CULLINAN

A Small Claims Court are to be instituted for the area of Cullinan. A notice in this regard appeared in the Government Gazette on 21 August 1998.

A local advisory board to advise the Minister on the Functioning of the Court, including the appointment of commissioners, has also been appointed. The Board consists of:

Chairperson: Mr S F Botes, a pensioner.

Vice-Chairperson: Mr M P Sello, a members of Correctional Services.

Members: Mr M J Rumo, a businessman Mr H M Mathabatha, a community leader and assessor Mr J Malan, an insurance agent Mr L M Qakaza, a risk manager

The functioning of the court will commence soon. The institution of a Small Claims Court for the Cullinan area, is a further step towards the goal of brining all communities countrywide within the reach of being able to have their small claims settlement in an informal, inexpensive and expeditious manner. The Department of Justice remains committed to the accessibility of justice to all communities in South Africa.
