MEC COMMENDS THE POLICE FOR ARREST OF RABOTAPI

Issued by: Gauteng Provincial Government

The MEC for Public Safety and Security, Gauteng, Mr. Paul Mashatile commended the police for the arrest of one of the most dangerous criminals in the country, "Fingers" Rabotapi, yesterday and has also supported the establishment of an inquest into his death.

"The arrest constituted a breakthrough in the removal of dangerous criminals and thereby guaranteeing community safety. I also fully support the establishment of a police inquest into circumstances leading to his death. There is still more work to be done to make sure that his cahoots and all other syndicated criminals are also brought to book. This event should send a clear message to all the criminals that the police will relentlessly hunt them down and make sure that they are brought to book and face the wrath of the law," the MEC said.

Rabotapi was arrested in Dobsonville yesterday after one week of police surveillance. Subsequently the police took him to a house in Sandton, which he allegedly used as the hideout.

He is alleged to have attempted to get a gun when the police shot and killed him in the house.

The police wanted Rabotapi for many cases of murder, robbery and rape as well as escape from prison.
