MEC SUPPORTS INITIATIVES TO FIGHT SEXUAL HARASSMENT

The MEC for Public Safety and Security, Gauteng, Mr. Paul Mashatile, will attend the Public Hearings on Sexual Harassment at 11:30 a.m. at the Greater Johannesburg Metropolitan Council (Braamfontein) today, as part of the programme to consolidate the fight against crimes on women and children.

"My mission is to enure that the fight against the violence and crime against women and children is prioritised and I will do all in my power to support initiatives in that direction. It is my belief that these Public Hearings will go a long way in consolidating cooperation between the Government, Non - Governmental - Organisations and Civil Society in protecting women and children," The MEC said.

The MEC is expected to announce the Ministry's Month Programme to focus on women issues which involves assessment of services offered by the SAPS to women who are victims of crimes; support to widows and widowers of the SAPS among others.

These Public Hearings are organised by the Sexual Harassment Education Programme (SHEP) and are expected to be attended by a myriad of organisations from the entire province.
