The MEC for Public Safety and Security, Gauteng, Mr. Paul Mashatile, has welcome the life sentence meted out to Dan Mabote in the Johannesburg High Court today, as a good signal of the commitment on the part of the entire criminal justice system to deal more drastically with rapists and murderers, henceforth.
"I welcome the sentence. This is a clear signal that the criminal justice is committed to deal effectively with perpetrators of heinous crimes like rape and murder. I commend the police for their sterling investigative work and Judge Lucy Mailula for meting out this punishment. I hope the others will emulate them. We all have a duty to protect women and children." The MEC said.
Dan Mabote was sentenced to life imprisonment today for the brutal murder, kidnapping and rape of seven - year - old Mamokgethi Malebane in Katlehong on July 21st last year as well as escape from custody.
