The Department of Local Government, Housing and Land Administration has over a period of time put in place recommendations outlined by the Mpumalanga Public Accounts Committee.
All the recommendations are outdated as the Department has over six months ago identified ten Local Authorities through project viability which were not performing well. To date four out of the 10 Local Councils have improved drasticaly, these include Dullstroom, Standerton, Breyten and Machadodorp
Greylingstad is already being assisted by the Eastvaal District Council through capacity building and installation of credit and financial control measures.
The MEC for Local Government, Housing and Land Administration, Mr Craig Padayachee said " All other recommendations as tabled by the Public Accounts Committee are accepted and are already being attended to, to ensure compliance".
He emphasized that all Local Authorities' problems are being systematically addressed through the intervention as provided for in Section 10 G 2 (m) Act No. 209 of 1993 of the Local Government Transitional Act.
