MEC CONDEMNS ATTACK ON PEGGY-SUE KHUMALO AND CALLS FOR STAND ACTION FROM THE POLICE.
The MEC for Public Safety and Security, Gauteng, Mr Paul Mashatile has condemned the attack on Peggy-Sue Khumalo which took place at the weekend and has called for the police to take stern action in ensuring that justice takes its course and women and children are protected at all times.
"I condemn the attack on Peggy-Sue Khumalo as it reflects the many abuses that women have to endure in our society which must be eradicated. I urge the police to get to the bottom of the matter in order to make sure that justice prevails as well as ensure that the protection of women and children in general is a priority," the MEC said.
Miss Khumalo was attacked at her home on Sunday when a man broke into her house, assaulted her and threatened to kill her.
The man was subsequently arrested and reported to have appeared at the Randburg Magistrates court and received bail of R500.00.
"I take this opportunity to wish her a speedy recovery and hope that she will come back stronger to join us in the fight against crime. Peggy-Sue has met with my office and has volunteered to adopt Ivory Park Police Station and work closely with the Police and the community in combating and preventing crime," the MEC further said.
Peggy-Sue Khumalo was supposed to have participated in the opening of the Ivory Park Police Station today as part of her commitment to participate in combating and preventing crime in the Province, but failed due to the incident. Together with the Ministry for Public Safety and Security, Gauteng she is presently working on a comprehensive programme of involving positive role models and other celebrities in the fight against crime.
