NEW CABINET APPOINTMENT

President Nelson Mandela has agreed to a request from the leader of the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) Inkosi Mangosutho Buthelezi to withdraw Minister Sipo Mzimela from the Cabinet of the Government of National Unity. The decision has been taken in accordance with Schedule 6, Annexure B, Section (10) (d) of the Constitution of the Republic.

In terms of these Constitutional provisions, the President has appointed Mr Ben Skosana, MP from the IFP as the new Minister of Correctional Services. The appointment will take effect as soon as the necessary formalities have been finalised.

President Nelson Mandela wishes to thank Dr Sipho Mzimela for the outstanding contribution that he has made in serving the people of South Africa; and he wishes him all the best in his new endeavours.
