MEDIA STATEMENT ON MEETING BETWEEN DEPUTY FOREIGN MINISTER AZIZ PAHAD AND HELLENIC ASSOCIATIONS IN SOUTH AFRICA
Deputy Foreign Minister Aziz Pahad met with representatives of the Non-Governmental Organisations, Hellenes for Human Rights, Equity and Justice as well as with the South African Hellenic Friendship Association, at their request, in Pretoria today. The organisation provided its perspective of the situation in Cyprus and handed over a memorandum which the Deputy Minister agreed to forward to President Mandela.
Following the meeting, Deputy Minister Pahad stressed that South Africa supported efforts to secure full implementation of all United Nations resolutions in Cyprus and to this end emphasised the important role of the United Nations Secretary-General's efforts to secure a just and workable solution for the island and its people. Furthermore, the Deputy Minister also reiterated South Africa's support for the initiatives of international organisations such as the European Union, the Commonwealth and Non-Aligned Movement who are also engaged in finding a solution to the longstanding dispute.
