MEDIA STATEMENT ON THE OFFICIAL VISIT OF THE KENYAN FOREIGN MINISTER TO SOUTH AFRICA : 22 - 24 JULY 1998
The Kenyan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Bonaya A Godana, will arrive in South Africa today for a two day visit at the invitation of Foreign Minister Alfred Nzo. The visit takes place against the background of rapidly growing relations between South Africa and Kenya which has followed the re-establishment of official relations.
The Kenyan Foreign Minister's visit to South Africa will pave the way for a State visit by Kenya's Head of State, President Daniel arap Moi, which is scheduled for 13 to 15 August this year.
Apart from discussions with his South African counterpart, Minister Godana will also be meeting with other South African Cabinet Ministers.
It is expected that the discussions will cover a wide range of issues, including establishing an improved framework for economic and socio-political co-operation between the two countries. Kenya is currently South Africa's largest non-SADC trading partner on the African continent, with South African exports to this East African state reaching the R1.6 billion mark in 1997.
