MEDIA STATEMENT BY THE MINISTRY FOR SAFETY AND SECURITY, PRETORIA, 3 JULY 1998
The Ministry has received the report from the Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) which deals with the number of deaths in police custody and deaths related to police action.
Minister Sydney Mufamadi is studying the report, whereafter he will meet with the Executive Director of the ICD, Advocate Neville Mellville, and then the National Commissioner of the South African Police Service, Commissioner George Fivaz.
The Minister will issue a statement on the matter later.
