MEDIA STATEMENT BY THE MINISTER FOR SAFETY AND SECURITY, MR F.S. MUFAMADI, PRETORIA, 24 JUNE 1998
I have received a report from the Deputy Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal, Assistant Commissioner Moses Khanyile, on allegations of racism which he made recently.
I have instructed the Secretary for Safety and Security, Mr Azhar Cachalia, to finalise his proposal this week on the mechanism and its terms of reference to probe allegations of racism within the South African Police Service.
The report from Assistant Commissioner Khanyile will be regarded as one of the submissions to such a mechanism.
The general guideline I have given is that every member of the South African Police Service who has something to say on this issue, should be given an opportunity to do so.
I will make the announcement on the mechanism and its terms of reference once the proposal has been finalised.
