MEDIA STATEMENT ON THE USE OF DIPLOMATIC PASSPORTS

The Department of Foreign Affairs confirms that a diplomatic passport was issued to Mrs Winnie Madikizela-Mandela on 4 October 1994, in her then capacity as Deputy Minister of Arts, Culture, Science and Technology. Preliminary internal Departmental investigations have revealed that she did not surrender the diplomatic passport when she vacated her position as Deputy Minister, as required. The Department will take the necessary steps to recover she said passport at the earliest possible opportunity.

Members of parliament are entitled to travel on official passports only.
