MAMELODI CHILDREN'S PROJECT TO RECEIVE NYC FINANCIAL BOOST

"The National Youth Commission will involve itself in the facilitation and mobilisation of financial resources for capacity building of organisations working with youth." Section 9.1.1.1, National Youth Policy.

The National Youth Commission will host a high-profile forum dealing with issues of street children at the Mamelodi YMCA Hall, Mamelodi East (map available from Paul Johnson on cell 082 771 8465) from 12.30 - 4.00 pm today. Representatives of the US government and leading US and South African NGOs, as well as Reverend Frank Chikane, Director-General in the Office of the Deputy President and Hlengiwe Bhengu, Chair of the National Youth Commission will consider the issues and challenges faced by street children and the organisations who work with them.

The NYC will use the occasion to announce a major grant to the Streetwise organisation, in support of Leratong Children's Home in Mamelodi East. We invite media, particularly those in the Pretoria area, to attend any part of the programme and assist us in highlighting the valuable work being done by this organisation for not only the youth of Pretoria, but young people throughout the country. We would particularly encourage photo-desks to consider this for their diary.

Reverend Chikane's address is scheduled for 14.20, whilst the grant award is set for 15.00. A full programme is attached.

To confirm attendance please contact NYC Acting CEO Paul Johnson on Cell / Voicemail 082 771 8465
