MEDIA STATEMENT BY SOUTH AFRICA ON THE ADDITIONAL TWO NUCLEAR TESTS CONDUCTED BY PAKISTAN

South Africa has noted with deepening concern the two further nuclear tests conducted by Pakistan on 30 May 1998.

South Africa is gravely disappointed at this development and restates its well known position that it opposes ad will continue to oppose all nuclear tests irrespective of source.

South Africa hold firm to the view that world security is derived from nuclear disarmament and not nuclear proliferation.

An escalating arms race in South Asia remains of deep concern to South Africa.
