CRICKET IN THE SMLC SCORES A SIX

The Southern Metropolitan Local Council (SMLC) has established partnership with the Gauteng Cricket Board.

The upgrading and developments of the cricket facilities in Lenasia South Extension 1 and Zakariya Park will be funded by the Gauteng Cricket Board. The SMLC will provide land, construction, land scalping, grass and leveling the facilities at a cost of R20 000 from its operational budget.

Sponsorship of this project by Gauteng Cricket Board will enable these communities to participate in this sport and assist the SMLC in service delivery. The only available cricket pitch in Lenasia South does not comply with the required standards and no facility exists in Zakariya Park.

The Gauteng Cricket Board together with the communities and the cricket clubs will be responsible for the following:

Construction started in April 1998 and should be completed by the end of June 1998. The fields will be maintained by the SMLC. This project will be monitored by the SMLC together with the Gauteng Cricket Board.
