NIKE SOUTH AFRICA SPONSORS DEVELOPMENTS AT CHRIS HANI SPORTS COMPLEX
The Southern Metropolitan Local Council (SMLC) has secured additional sponsorship from Nike South Africa for the upgrading and development of the Chris Hani Sports Complex in Orange Farm.
The complex was recently opened by the MEC for Sports, Arts And Culture Mr Peter Skosana and the SMLC Mayor Nandi Mayathula-Khoza. The basic structure was erected with funds received from RDP funds. However the sports complex needs to be developed further to be fully functional as a sports complex.
Nike South Africa will be responsible for this aspect of the development of the complex. After negotiations Nike South Africa has shown a willingness to increase its funds from R975 000 to R2000 000.
The SMLC has budgeted this money in the following manner;
Two tennis courts - R110 000 Six soccer fields - R730 000 Four basketball courts - R190 000 One rugby field - R170 000 Athletics track upgrade - R160 000 Two hockey / soccer fields R240 000 Two softball fields - R170 000 Three volleyball courts - R160 000 Irrigation pipeline R50 000 Contingency allowance - R20 000
Companies like Nike South Africa are showing a social responsibility to development and are now assisting Council in its bid to make positive and visible changes in previously undeveloped communities.
