The Southern Metropolitan Local Council (SMLC), the Department of Transport and Gautrans have made considerable progress on the construction of a footbridge between Eldorado Park and the Joe Slovo informal Settlement.
Residents from both these communities complained to the SMLC that a number of fatal accidents have occurred on the road as a result of pedestrians crossing this very busy section of the N12 highway.
Residents in Slovo Park depend on employment opportunities, schooling and formal shopping facilities that exist in Eldorado Park but many do not use the existing roads linking the two areas. These roads are not easily accessible to residents.
Following these complaints the SMLC then entered into negotiations with the Department of Transport and Gautrans for the construction of a footbridge linking Eldorado Park and the Joe Slovo informal settlement.
Construction on the bridge has already started and it is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
