MEDIA STATEMENT ON VISIT BY FOREIGN MINISTER ALFRED NZO TO CARTAGENA, COLUMBIA.

Foreign Minister Alfred Nzo and a delegation of senior officials left for Cartagena, Columbia on 15 May 1998 to attend a Ministerial meeting of the Coordinating Bureau of the Non Aligned Movement (NAM). The meeting hosted by Columbia is to be held from 17-20 May 1998.

The Meeting of Foreign Ministers will be preparing for the 12th NAM Summit which will be held in Durban from 29 August to 3 September 1998.

Minister Nzo will also be discussing some of the major issues of importance to NAM members with his colleagues in a series of scheduled bilateral meetings.

The Cartagena gathering will provide an opportunity for consultations between Ministrs and senior officials of the outgoing Chair, Columbia and South Africa, which will assume the Chair from September 1998.

The meeting will also provide the occasion to view logistical arrangements at first hand prior to the Durban Summit.
