MINISTER TO INTRODUCE LAW COMMISSION'S ISSUE PAPER ON CHILD CARE ACT
CAPE TOWN - Welfare and Population Development Minister Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi will on Tuesday - 12 May 1998 - address a media conference to introduce the first Issue Paper of the South African Law Commission's Project Committee on the review of the Child Care Act. The media conference takes place at 9am at the Ngwenyama Auditorium, 120 Plein Street in Cape Town.
The Issue Paper to be released by the SA Law Commission is a crucial step towards the introduction of the legislation for children, bringing South Africa in line with the Constitution and with its international obligations.
Once introduced, this legislation will make a significant difference to the plight of our children, many of whom remain victims of a justice and welfare system that is both hostile and inappropriate.
The Issue Paper contains key pointers for the future. The South African Law Commission and the Project Committee joins the Minister in calling upon all South Africans concerned with the rights and care of children to contribute their thoughts, criticisms, contributions and opinions to this extremely important Issue Paper.
