MINISTER OF SPORT ON SARFU REPONSE TO NSC ULTIMATUM

PRESS STATEMENT ON SARFU'S REPONSE TO NSC ULTIMATUM

Yesterday's developments, if anything, strengthen the government's resolve to have the affairs of the South African Rugby Football Union investigated by a Judicial Commission of Inquiry.

As late as Thursday morning, Dr Luyt, once more showed how out of touch he is with his constituency when he tried to give the impression that he was a pawn in a bigger political game by showing no grasp of his administration's poor track record.

Any self-respecting person would read the sentiments of eight out of fourteen of the affiliated provinces to mean that he has outlived his usefulness and should accordingly do the honourable thing.

That however, would not mean that we would abandon our stance on the Browde Commission of Inquiry.

In the interest of the players, the sponsors ad the general public we will spare no effort in ensuring that sanity prevails and the current problems are speedily addressed without unduly prejudicing the programme for the year.
