MAHARAJ PLANS TO FIGHT CRIME IN THE PROVINCE

Gauteng SAPS Provincial Commissioner General Sharma Maharaj is to make a presentation to the Gauteng Legislature Safety and Security Committee on updated plans to fight crime in the province, deemed to be one of the worst-hit in the world. A statement by the committee said the commissioner would also deal with the budget for the SAPS in Gauteng as well as the difficulties experienced in combating crime.

Others scheduled to attend the hearing are the new MEC for Safety and Security, Mr Paul Mashatile, the chairpersons of Community Police Forum Area boards, the chairpersons of all Public Safety and Emergency Services, NGO's dealing with the crime-related issues and members of the public.
