MEC CONDEMNS VIOLENCE AND CALLS FOR MORE VISIBLE POLICING IN GREENFIELDS (EAST RAND)

The MEC for Public Safety and Security, Gauteng, Mr. Paul Mashatile strongly condemns the senseless violence that led to the killing of three people and an injury of five others in Greenfields early morning yesterday and has called on the police in Edenpark to increase visibility and patrols in the area.

"This senseless violence must come to a stop immediately. It is a serious impediment to the implementation of development projects like building houses which the community so desperately need. I have called on the police to increase their visibility and ensure that lives and property are effectively protected." The Mec said.

The MEC visited the area yesterday and is expected to hold a meeting with the community on Saturday 25th April 1998 at 09:00hrs.

Five people have already been killed in the past two weeks alone and scores have died in the past year in the Greenfields and Phola Park areas.
