HEALTH DEPT WARNING OF SCAM

Issued by: Department of Health

DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH INFORMED OF PLAN TO DEFRAUD THE PUBLIC

The Department of Health has been informed of a scam in which members of the public are requested to send postal orders to the Isando Post Office in return for jobs and training in the health sector.

In March 1998 the Security Division of the Department of Health was alerted by an employee of Isando Post Office, of a certain individual regularly cashing postal orders worth R20 to R100 from people he offers to train for jobs in the health sector. This individual, who claims to be a director in the Department of Health, advertises his services through pamphlets distributed at taxi ranks.

The Department of Health has reported this matter to the South African Police Services in Kempton Park for investigation.

The Department of Health would like to warn the public of these fraudulent practices. The public needs to be wary of persons who offer to find them employment in return for money.
