As a continuation of the consultation process following the submission of the report of the government commission to the president, President Nelson Mandela will brief the senior leadership of the SA National Defence Force tomorrow, April 2 1998, about the contents of the commission report.
President Mandela concluded the first round of consultation this evening after meeting with Deputy President Thabo Mbeki, the Minister of Defence and his deputy, the Minister of Justice, the Deputy Minister of Intelligence and senior government officials.
Due to prior engagements and commitments related to travel abroad, the Minister of Home Affairs, the Minister of Safety and Security and the Deputy Minister of Safety and Security could not attend the meeting.
President Mandela would like to see a speedy completion of the process of addressing the glaring shortcomings which were identified by the commissioners in the process of the compilation, verification and subsequent handling of the SANDF report into "organised activities to overthrow the government".
