CLINTON IN SOWETO
United States President Bill Clinton and wife Hillary, will visit Soweto on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 March 1998. Clinton will lay a wreath at the Hector Petersen Memorial tomorrow and attend mass at Regina Mundi Church on Sunday. Both the Hector Peterson Memorial and Regina Mundi Church are historic sites with memorable recollections of the pre-apartheid era.
Southern Metropolitan Local Council's Mayor, Nandi-Mayathula-Khoza, will be at both occasions to welcome the president and his delegation.
Clinton, who is presently in Cape Town, will arrive at the Johannesburg International Airport tomorrow morning. After his arrival, the president will head for Katlehong before going to Soweto. He is expected to be in Soweto at about 12:30 in the afternoon.
The road leading to the Hector Petersen Memorial will be cordoned off an hour before Clinton's arrival. Taxi drivers and other motorists are advised to use alternative routes as of 11:30 in the morning.
