MEDIA ADVISORY: SUBJECT TO CHANGE AND VISIT TO SOUTH AFRICA BY PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA: 26 - 29 MARCH 1998
NOTE: You will appreciate that due to the unusually high media interest in this visit and the fact that 150+ journalists from the White House Press Corps (WHPC) will also accompany the President, we have been obliged to create pools for each media event during the visit. To this end we would appreciate your cooperation and understanding.
Pools will be worked out to accommodate 50% from WHPC and 50% from South African Media (SA) and the Foreign Correspondents Association (FCA). FCA should please note that if their particular news organisation is represented in the WHPC it will not be possible to accommodate it in the compilation of pools.
Strict accreditation procedures will apply to each and every media event. Journalists interested in covering the various events should please contact Adriaan Woudstra on 083 305 9548 or Hester Pretorius on 083 255-8925 at their very earliest opportunity. We would strongly advise that you fax your details to the Foreign Affairs Operations Room in Cape Town on 021-419-3106 or 021-419-3309. The compilation of pools will be done on a first come first served basis. Journalists should note that accreditation badges will be required for each event. Arrangements will be made to issue these badges to those journalists who have been designated to the pools at each venue, before proceeding through security checks.
Please note that pool members will be obliged to make their material available to all media on request.
No flash lights or television lights will be allowed at venues where President Mandela is involved.
