SMLC : OUR WATER IS SAFE
The water in the Southern Metropolitan Local Council is safe and fit for human consumption, and that is official.
Our tests have shown that the quality of reticulated water used for human consumption is:
The samples that are reported to have a high bacteria count were probably not from the Southern Metropolitan Local Council - Soweto is straddled by West, North and South. Pimville for example, which was cited as an area with high bacteria levels, is not in the SMLC.
The high plate count in analyses samples does not necessarily indicate that the water is harmful to consumers as these bacteria are commonly found in the environment around us. Where such high counts occur, re-sampling of the sample point is undertaken.
The consumers in the SMLC can be assured of continuous monitoring of the reticulated water for their safety and protection.
