WATER SHUTDOWN ON MONDAY WILL AFFECT PARTS OF SOWETO

Issued by: Southern Metropolitan Substructure

PRESS RELEASE 18 FEBRUARY 1998

Residents in parts of Soweto will experience an interruption of their water supply on Monday 23 February between 09:00 and 17:00.

The shutdown will affect water supply to the Chiawelo reservoir which serves Chiawelo, Protea North, Protea South and parts of Naledi.

The interruption is due to the upgrading of the Old Potchefstroom Road in Soweto. An old meter connection has to be removed to allow for construction on the road to proceed.

The Southern Metropolitan Local Council (SMLC) will deploy water tankers in the affected areas, to ensure a constant supply of fresh water and pamphlets are distributed to inform residents of the planned interruption.
