The Speaker of Parliament, Dr Frene Ginwale, today said that the Government's National Crime Prevention Strategy will only succeed to the extent that the public becomes involved in education and awareness projects, in community police forums and in providing support to the criminal justice system.
Opening the NCPS awareness exhibition in Parliament today, Dr Ginwale said Parliament and parliamentarians have also been the victims of crime.
She said the challenge for political parties and individual MP's was to take the information provided by the relevant departments and NGO's to their constituencies and to mobilise communities to fight crime.
Members of the public are welcome to attend the exhibition where all the roleplayers within the NCPS are exhibiting their role and participation in the fight against crime. Furthermore presentations are presented in the large auditorium at 120 Plein Street at midday every day until Friday this week.
