@ MEC DUARTE ON THE VISIT TO PORTUGAL

a. The official visit to Portugal that took place on the 27th - 1st April 1997 was undertaken on the invitation of the Portuguese community (particularly business people in South Africa) regarding their concerns about crime and its impact on potential investors from Portugal.

b. The MEC was invited to address the Portuguese business people to allay their fears on the crime situation.

c. The Portuguese Embassy undertook to pay for one ticket for the members of the entourage whilst the Ministry would pay for the three remaining tickets. That took place as such.

d. All other expenses were paid for by the Portuguese Government

e. The delegation was:

MEC Jessie Duarte Mbulelo Musi (Media Liaison Officer) Gilberto Martins (Interpretor) Babalazi Bulunga (advisor and Consultant)

The visit was indeed a success that has further cemented good and healthy relations not only between the two countries but between the Ministry and the Portuguese community and the Embassy.

"We will continue to maintain and strengthen the good relations between our two countries as this is in the interests of both our peoples." the MEC said.
