In recent days there have been several media enquiries attempting to link Gauteng Premier Mathole Motshekga to the Midrand Development Project (MidDev).
As a member of the community and a respected leader in all the communities he had lived, Dr Motshekga has participated in a number of community-based organisations, Quasi non-governmental organisations, (Quangos), Non-Governmental Organisation NGOs) and other community structures.
When he was asked to join the board of directors of MidDev - a non-profit Section 21 company of the Midrand Council - he did so as a member of the Midrand community.
However, because of his heavy workload he seldom participated in the activities of MidDev.
He resigned from MidDev in October last year, shortly after he was elected Chairperson of the ANC and Premier-Designate of Gauteng.
To suggest that his membership could have influenced the awarding of one or the other tender - during or after his tenure as board member - is not only mischievous but seeks to undermine the integrity and intelligence of the people tasked with the duty of deciding on who to give the tender to.
