COMMUNITY CLEAN UP CAMPAIGN, JABAVU

Councillor King Sibiya and residents of Central Jabavu will be rolling up their sleeves, taking to the streets and cleaning up Jabavu on Saturday, 24 January 1998.

This exercise will form part of an environmental awareness campaign for the area.

"The objective of this clean up exercise, is to create a cleaner, more healthier environment for the community to live in and a more sustainable strategy that will discourage people from dumping illegally in our open spaces" said Councillor Sibiya.

The clean up will involve approximately 500 volunteers from the community. "No Dumping" signs are to be erected after polluted spaces have been cleared by the volunteers.

Environmental information leaflets and other material are to be distributed on the day.

The Mayor of the SMLC, Nandi Mayathula-Khoza, will launch a community clean up award aimed at encouraging all communities in the South to start cleaning up their areas as part of her programme for 1998.

The campaign will commence at 08:00 at the Jabavu Administration Office.
