THOUSANDS of people are expected to pack the Library Gardens in downtown Johannesburg next Monday January 19, 1997, for the inauguration of Gauteng's new Premier.

Some of the country's top politicians, businesspeople, academics and legal bigwigs will rub shoulders with people from the townships and informal settlements around the Guateng.

The ceremony will start at the Legislature where the Members of the Provincial Legislature (MPL) will elect a Premier to replace outgoing Premier Tokyo Sexwale who is leaving to join the corporate world.

The procession will then move to the Library Gardens between Sauer, Market, Simmonds and President Streets for the swearing-in ceremony. The ceremony will be chaired by ANC chairperson and chairman of the National Council of Premiers, Mr Terror Lekota. Justice Arthur Chaskalson will conduct the swearing in.

Mr Sexwale will deliver a congratulatory message where he is expected to announce what he would be doing the next day.
